Hi all! Hope you are good 🙂 My hubby and I are flying to LA tomorrow for a mini vacay that is well needed! I wanted to share this quick and easy dessert/snack with you before I left. I had two trials with these before posting this recipe and my husband devoured almost all of them so I knew they were good enough to share with you all!
So, if I had to choose what my favorite Middle Eastern cookie was it would be barazek. It is a delicious crisp sesame honey cookie that tastes absolutely amazing; it is quite addicting really. My parents would bring them back from overseas in these tins and I would be so excited to dive into these treats. These truffles are simple to make and have very similar flavors to the barazek I know and love. It’s much healthier than the typical barazek too. They are bite size for a portion that is just enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. I added dates and shaped them this way to give my own twist on the cookie I’ve always loved. I hope you enjoy these fun-size treats that are jam-packed with Middle Eastern flavors!
Total Time: 20 minutes
1 cup instant oats (oat flour) *In a processor, grind your oats till fine and it will be considered oat flour/instant oats. (Use GF oats to be gluten free)
1/3 cup toasted sesame seeds *Toast seeds in saute pan until golden brown on medium heat.
2 tbsp honey (use Agave if Vegan)
2 tbsp water
2-3 tbsp date paste *If you do not have date paste, make your own with dates. Soak your dates in warm water for several minutes then take out the pit and process them till they resemble a paste.
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
1/4-1/2 tsp rose water
2-3 tbsp maple syrup
- On a plate, place the toasted sesame seeds. In a pan, melt the honey and water together. Pour the water and honey mixture over the seeds on the plate.
- In a bowl, add the fine oats. To that add the melted coconut oil, rose water, syrup and date paste. Mix all together with a spoon.
- Form this mixture into a ball using the palm of your hands. It will be sticky, so have a washcloth that is wet to clean your hands in between.
- Roll the balls all over in the sesame honey mixture till the entire ball is coated. Set aside and allow to dry for 15 minutes before enjoying!
